Slovenska karitas and CMSR visited communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina devastated by floods

30. 1. 2025

Representatives of Slovenska karitas, together with representatives of the Centre for International Cooperation and Development (CMSR), travelled to Bosnia and Herzegovina to visit the flood-affected areas in the municipalities of Konjic and Jablanica. They visited local communities, met with representatives of municipal governments, national and diocesan Caritas, and visited families most affected by the recent weather events.

The extent of the damage is extremely high. Many families have lost their homes, and some houses have been completely destroyed. People who survived this natural disaster are facing severe consequences and trauma, having lost everything in a very short time. In addition to housing, public infrastructure has been severely damaged - water systems, schools, kindergartens and other key facilities that are essential for normal community life have been destroyed.

As part of the visit, the Slovenian delegation met with local authorities and humanitarian organisations and discussed the possibilities of where Slovenia could most effectively help in the reconstruction of the affected areas. With the help of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, talks are currently underway on concrete forms of assistance that would enable faster rehabilitation and support for affected families and communities.

Solidarity and assistance are crucial in these difficult times.
